Do you know this song?
How do you remember someone when their voice has almost been forgotten?
With a harmonium, a microphone and a few toys and objects from her childhood, Mallika Taneja sets out to find a singer she loved and lost. Who was she? What became of her dreams? And how did a voice that once belonged on stage become confined to the home?
Drawing on nearly a year of interviews, Mallika pieces together a life through other people’s memories and the songs they still remember. On stage, these fragments become music and storytelling as she moves between her own memories and stepping into the life of the woman she is searching for.
This is a performance about loss, but also about love, finding a voice, and the pleasure of singing together. As forgotten songs find their way back into the room, Mallika invites the audience to join in.
