Dancing Girl

In Dancing Girl, Sujata Goel presents a fictional character of herself. A mythical, doll-like figure continuously morphs through different psychological and physical states. Formally, the work explores the construction of gesture and meaning, employing a highly representational and stylised form that is simultaneously abstract. Politically, the work attempts to challenge the politics of exotica and a Eurocentric understanding of contemporary dance aesthetics.
